OSM2World Object Viewer launched

2026-05-31

A first version of the OSM2World Object Viewer was launched earlier this year.

The viewer is a web-based tool to display any object from the OpenStreetMap database in 3D. Features include:

The primary audience of the tool are OpenStreetMap contributors who want to see recently added data in 3D. Behind the scenes, the new viewer is a thin wrapper around the OSM2World web library, so it performs the conversion from OSM data to 3D models directly in the user’s browser. Therefore, unlike the OSM2World WebGL demo (which is updated weekly and features city-scale 3D scenes), it can pull fresh data on demand and immediately reflect any changes to the OSM database.

The launch was previously announced on the OSM Community Forum, where you can discucss the tool and provide feedback. The open source code is available on Github. Usage hints for the tool are now included in the documentation on using OSM2World while mapping.
